While staying in Fez I met many people who are much more interested in Gnawa, hip hop and different types of West African music than they are in Andalusian music. This is very interesting and I will get in to it more later. I befriended a couple of guys that work at the Arabic Language Institute in Fez (ALIF) who have a band called Boohalee. I sat in with them and some Gnawa musicians during a show at ALIF, I am in the middle on 'ud:



This is a place for me to document and share some of my research and travels, while gathering new ideas and insight. In most of the content I will focus on my work with music in and around Fez, Morocco. As I continue to post, I plan to synchronize this blog with my thesis project in which I investigate Moroccan Andalusian music. My hope is to create dialogue with interested individuals throughout this ever expanding community...
